Those who consider themselves peers of Melbourne outfit Windwaker are no doubt feeling a tad concerned at the moment, with the arrival of the group’s latest release New Infinite, which comes to us this Monday eve as a single/clip combo spiced up with a run of live dates seeing the band busy themselves throughout regional New South Wales.

New Infinite see’s Windwaker stretch their metalcore sensibilities right to the seams. A hurricane of tight riffage, and surgically accurate percussion, the track is a respectable homage to the gods of the genre, rather than just jacking their steeze. Vocalist Will King demonstrates some considerable chops on the track, aptly handling the duelling clean/dirty vocals throughout. Indeed, however impressive the song bed is on New Infinite, it’s the vocal line that hooked in deepest – at least with this writer.

For the video stimulant, Windwaker kept things simple, leaning on a tried and true performance, spiced up with the occasional flurry of effects, thus allowing the track to do the heavy talking.

The new single began to take shape following the studio sessions for their previous EP Fade, which dropped back in 2016. King expands on this further, adding “It was as if this massive door had opened right up in front of us, bringing vibrant feelings and energy. The process felt surreal. Leaving the studio, we knew we wanted to achieve that independently.”

Adding even more meaning to the track is the fact the band handled the technical side of things, from production to engineering, all the way through to mixing and mastering. As a result, King adds, “This is a song that was written and produced by Windwaker, mixed and mastered by our drummer, Chris Lalic.
